There are many fake messages emerging everyday in Singapore about almost everything especially incidents regarding COVID-19 and ‘circuit breaker.’ But there is one car related fake whatsapp message relating to the COVID-19 ‘circuit breaker’ which is circulating these few days. We wonder why people are doing this when this virus had already strike fear to people both physically and mentally.
The whatsapp message claims that a friend’s son got fined $300 by the traffic police during a road block for sending his friend home. It says that the traffic police had fined them as their ICs showed that they are not staying together in the same address and don’t belong to the same household. If they are caught again for this offense, they will be fined $10,000/-.
The road blocks conducted were to detect offences such as drink-driving and for other traffic offenses. It is not conducted specifically to enforce safe distancing measures. However, if drivers, riders or passengers flouting the elevated safe distancing measures during road blocks, enforcement actions may be taken.
